Multiple Exposure Essentials

  • Aperture- a small aperture is needed to decrease extra light exposure
  • Tripod- the camera needs to be as still as possible for the best outcomes
  • Manual Mode- you need to be in control of your settings
  • ISO- the ISO needs to be set at 100
  • Shutter Speed- the shutter speed needs to be long enough to capture all movements wanted in the single image
  • Single Light Source- having as little light as possible is key
  • Flash-  A flash will keep only the movements illuminated to be exposed
  • Keep it small- too many movements exposed can cause a jumbled mess
  • Timing- getting the flash to go with your movements and getting the shutter speed right is needed to get the picture clear
  • Background- a solid background (preferably black) is needed for the subject to get exposed properly
